For a moment, as I stuck my head past the open window pane, I peered down at the garden a way's below and noticed him there. He sat on the concrete rim of the fountain, surrounded by the tall, thick green hedges, and trees bridaled in what early Spring had bloomed their canopy of white blossoms. His eyes were fixated on the water; the reflection beneath him came together and apart bewitchingly enough to keep himself entranced. He didn't notice me, and I fully assumed he wouldn't of unless I made my way from the balcony right above and down the open staircase. I forgot how tall the door was and the color of the morning glories that saved themselves for the brink of dawn, overflowing off the side stone walls that, too, were covered in moss and an entanglement of brown roots. Dandelions by the clumps were strewn along the cobblestone path that followed the stone walls at either side, but there weren't any piles of autumn leaves to dive into and throw up into the air anymore. They were raked clean off the grass. Small details about the castle leave me when I'm not there to be reminded of them all, but it's always the ones about him that I know completely by heart. The door, with its rusted hinges in dire need of a couple spurts of oil, announced my arrival into the garden circle. His head briefly turned to settle his gaze on me. "Well, what do you know?" A delicate grin tugged at his lips, "Looks as though somebody's a tad curious." Something about his smile was so infectious that it grew one on me, too. He possessed a great warmth and it took him little effort to exude it. "This time it's /your/ garden, not mine-and I'll meander about like a restless soul whenever I'm in the mood to." His brown eyes shifted away, resting themselves once again upon the gently rippling water. "You'll hear a lot of things about me. Everybody's just about to leave the party." "Nothing in particular. I like it out here," He lightly tugged at the tight collar of his shirt, "It's less stuffy." I glanced up at the sky sprinkled in stars, "Prettier, too." His question followed suite, "When're you and your family leaving?" "I'd say an hour." I said back in response. I thought nothing of it until he grew completely quiet. For once, he said nothing and it prompted me to pull my eyes back down from the lit evening sky. He uncomfortably shifted where he sat, and there he was, adrift in the quiet flow of water and the cricket's hymn. I rested a hand on his shoulder, "I'll stay in the mean time." His own hand reached across and held onto mine. Without another word, he leaned himself against me and we sat beneath the moon, kindred in silence.
